TWO POEMS

Translated by Wayne Chambliss

Subnarcosis

Birds
raw endless chirping
on a cold black branch
something raw
not true perhaps, but only
the announcement of some possible
child-like, inhuman
though certainly for those of us listening
                       – alarmed – far off
                       – becalmed – far off
birds a whole city
teeming            closed
                                  glories of glottises
of acumens and traps of doctrine
a closed si-si-significance
not even child-like but
adult occult in its austerity
                                                        [scattered species of my sleep
                                                         never to return].
